She rests within an extremely brief moment.
Like a breath not yet released,
the air remains held within the vessel.
—
Within the wood-firing,
ash and flame act upon the surface,
forming fine white specks and crystallizations.
They scatter across the flowing glaze,
like traces left by breath briefly suspended within.
—
The glaze moves under high temperature,
accumulating at turning points,
and spreading across flatter planes.
Deep green, milky white, and red emerging from within the body intersect,
shifting across varying thicknesses,
keeping the surface in an unstable state.
—
She has no fixed front.
One side is brighter—
the glaze opens, crystals clearly visible.
The other side is more contained and deep—
flow gathers, color compresses inward.
Between these two directions lies a difference,
like the inhale and exhale of a single breath.
—
The rim rises and falls irregularly,
its boundary remaining loose.
When held,
she subtly shifts with the angle of the hand,
continuing to respond.
—
Light moves along the glaze,
transitioning between crystallization and flow.
To observe her
is to witness a continuous change of state.
—
She holds a breath not yet released.
White specks, flowing glaze, and the edges of form
together sustain this brief suspension.
—
Through use,
temperature and moisture enter the vessel.
What was once held still
is gradually awakened again.
