She only begins to reveal herself after heating.

The body is hand-formed,
each point pinched to create a dense field of fine pores.
During wood-firing,
fire and ash reshape the surface,
forming a structure that is both rough and compact.

These pores do not fully penetrate,
yet between high temperature and use,
they create an interface that interacts with moisture.

When hot water is poured in,
the vessel warms—

moisture slowly escapes along the surface,
forming a thin veil of mist around the body.

The “smoke” does not come from within,
but emerges where heat and humidity meet at the surface.

The mist clings to the textured skin,
moving along the rises and granules,

revealing layers of flow in the light.

She becomes like a breathing presence,
her surface in constant transformation.

In stillness,
the form appears complete.

But in use,
she enters another state.

The appearance of mist
opens the time of the vessel.

Fire leaves the structure,
moisture makes it visible.

She is not a singular form,
but a state awakened by heat.
